2019 school budget allocations

Like all NSW public schools, this week we will receive a School Budget Allocation Report with our funding for 2019. The report will help us manage our total budget delivered through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM).

The RAM supports schools through needs-based funding to ensure a fair, efficient and transparent allocation of funds. Our school has the flexibility to make local decisions based on the specific needs of our students.

We will use our 2019 funding to support students and improve educational outcomes. The school executive will continue to work with the school community as we implement the school plan using this needs-based funding.

Anzac Day Assembly

At school we will hold a special assembly on Tuesday 10 April at 11.30am. All the classes will participate and each team will select lines from a poem to present the tragedy of war either through drama or pictures. One such poem is Australian poet, Kenneth Slessor and his poem Beach Burial written during the Second World War.

Students in Primary 2 learned about ochre and how Aboriginal people traditionally made paint. All students enjoyed using processes of physics to make ochre paintings of the sea and land. Students mixed solids with liquids to make magic on cardboard.

The Deadly Beanies

The Deadly Beanie Day on the2 th August combiines two community initiatives; beanies for brain canerwww.curebraincancer.org.au

and The Beanie Festival held by the Aboriginal community in community evey July.http://www.beaniefest.org

St George school supports Aborigiinal education and initiatitves by embedding Aborigianl perspoectives into our teaching and learning. Beanie makers are called beanieologists. The Beanie Festival in Alice Springs celebrates womens art and craft mang and empowers Aboriginal and aboriginal people to come together to make beanies.

The students and staff at St george school will be holding a beanie exhibition to raise money for the cure brain cancer foundation.

An afternoon drumming session with our students and their siblings, relatives and friends will be held on Wednesday 24 June 3.45pm - 4.30pm

It will be a social, fun way to learn skills such as mainting focus, using memory, taking turns, spatial awareness, fine and gross motor coordination, following instructions and communication.

The session will be presented by Josh Oshlack from Rhythm Village at the small cost of $5 per person. Please notify the school if you wish to participate

Students Sailing on Sydney Harbour

Some of our classes have had the opportunity this month to spend a few hours on the harbour sailing with the Sailors with Disabilities organisation based at Rushcutters Bay. The weather has been fantastic and the students, staff, family members and volunteers have been blessed with great sailing conditions. St George School celebrated Harmony Day 2015 with a special assembly on Thursday 19th March. The whole school came together to acknowledge the diversity within the school and the larger school community around us. Both the staff and students had the opportunity to wear the colour 'orange' for the day. Each of the teams - Primary, Middle and Seniors all had a role to play in the special assembly. Intensive Swim Week A Success

It's already been a very busy time in our hydrotherapy pool for the students here at St George School. This year, we decided to run our very own 'Intensive Swim Week' for our students from our Primary classes right though to our senior classes. We set aside two weeks in the calender so eveery student had the oportunityOne of our fantastic casual staff - Emma who has AUSSWIM qualifications, was able to work with staff, parents and volunteers to support the students in the pool.
